Rogers Announces Data Plans for iPad in Canada

By Keith McArthur from redboard.rogers.com :

Apple fans are passionate about Apple products. We know because we’re among them.

Rogers introduced the iPhone to Canada in 2008 and we were the first Canadian carrier to announce that we’ll carry the iPad. Now we’re thrilled to say it’s available for pre-order today at www.apple.com/ca/ipad and is set to launch on May 28.

We have a long-standing, strong working relationship with Apple and we think our years of experience will benefit Canadian iPad customers.

All iPad data plans will be available without a term contract, providing the freedom to activate or cancel a plan at any time. Rogers customers purchasing the iPad will be able to take advantage of the new iPad data plans to enjoy the device’s full suite of capabilities, backed by the reliability of Rogers’ proven network.

Here are the pricing options we’re making available to future iPad customers:

-250 MB for $15 + WiFi (Includes free unlimited access to all Rogers WiFi Hot Spots)
-5 GB for $35 + WiFi (Includes free unlimited access to all Rogers WiFi Hot Spots)

Customer experience shows that our 250mb/5GB plans will be more than enough for virtually all our customers. 99.8 per cent of our iPhone customers use less than 5GB of data. As the tablet is a new category, it’s too early to say if customers will use more or less data than they do for iPhone. But even for our rocket stick/embedded laptop customers, 95.6 per cent use less than 5GB per month.

Visit www.rogers.com/iPad for full details on these plans. As always, we’ll keep you posted right here.

Note the iPad will not be available on the Fido brand at launch.

Much has been said about the tablet being an important new product category. More importantly, you now have more options than ever before to communicate, to be informed and to be entertained wherever, whenever you desire.

Excited yet? We are. And we’d like you to activate your iPad with Rogers.

Will you be buying an iPad? Why or why not?

IPad comes to Canada on May 28

From www.cbc.ca

The iPad will be available in Canada May 28.

Apple's iPad tablet-style computer will be available in Canada and eight other countries May 28, the company announced Friday.

The U.S. firm revealed that launch date for the iPad in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the U.K. Customers will be able to order the iPad starting Monday.

The Wi-Fi-only version of the iPad will sell in Canada for $549 for the model with 16 gigabytes of storage, $649 for 32 GB and $749 for 64 GB.

The version that connects to both Wi-Fi and 3G cellular networks will sell for $679 for 16 GB, $779 for 32 GB and $879 for 64 GB.

Apple didn't say which Canadian cellphone company would carry the 3G signal, but Rogers Communications has previously announced that the 3G iPad will run on its network.

Rogers announced in April it would offer iPad price plans for all models when it becomes available in Canada.

Bell Canada on Friday said the device would work on its network, but did not say whether it would offer plans for it. Telus said it could not yet provide any information on the iPad.

The launch of the iPad outside the U.S. was postponed twice after the device was unveiled in January. Apple initially said the iPad would be sold outside the U.S. in late March, but the date was pushed back to late April and then late May.

Free iBooks download
The iBooks e-book reading app and the iBookstore from Apple will also be available to Canadians starting May 28. IBooks will be a free download for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Apple has sold more than one million iPads in the United States since they went on sale there April 5, with the Wi-Fi + 3G version going on sale April 30.

In the U.S., the iPad sells for $499 US at the low end, with the most expensive at $829 US.

Apple said the device will be released in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore in July.

The “My Account” iPhone App from Rogers / Fido

A few months ago, Rogers and Fido updated their websites to provide customers with the ability to view their wireless usage in almost real-time. The information was updated every four hours and gave users a great tool to track wireless usage.

To expand on that functionality and to set themselves apart from the other two Canadian iPhone carriers, Rogers and Fido have released new apps called “My Account”. The apps require no inputting of account credentials and simply pull everything from your iPhone network connection and SIM card.

Both Rogers and Fido each have their own version of the app and both apps provide customers with their wireless usage. Like the website, users can see minutes, text message and data usage right from their iPhone, which updates every 20 minutes instead of four hours as on the Rogers/Fido websites. The apps also allow customers to view their current balance and make a payment via credit card.

These apps do not support Corporate Paid/Reimbursed Accounts or Prepaid accounts. You also must be on 3G or EDGE for the apps to retrieve your account information. If you are on WiFi, you will have to turn WiFi off and connect to 3G or EDGE. This is annoying but hopefully a fix for this will come in the future.

Both of the Rogers My Account and Fido My Account apps are available on the iTunes App Store for free.
